On March 21st we celebrate Down syndrome and all the extra love, joy, and diversity it brings to our world! Why March 21st? The date for WDSD being the 21st day of the 3rd month, was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome. People often celebrate by wearing brightly colored socks and clothing to raise awareness. The different colored unmatched socks remind us that we are more alike than different and that being different is something to celebrate. I have rounded up some of my favorite videos, books, and small business shops to buy awareness apparel.
