January Stitch Fix

In my January fix I asked for casual sweaters and jackets, jeans with an interesting hem, and tops I could wear with my new faux leather leggings.  Here’s what they sent me.

  1. Pistola Raw Hem jeans
  2. RD Style Black Sweater
  3. DJ and Juju Navy Cold Shoulder Sweater
  4. Edyon Faux Leather and Suede Jacket
  5. Montagne Velvet Halter Top

They recommend I pair the sweaters with the jeans, toss the jacket over the black sweater and halter top, and wear the navy sweater and halter top with my faux leather leggings.  What do you think?  What are you loving?  I linked the jeans and leggings below.  I couldn’t find the tops, so I linked similar options (that cost less) below.   If you’d like to give StitchFix a whirl in 2018, click here to get started!

MAC X 15

This MAC X 15 ‘Warm Neutral’ palette is amazing!  It’s my newest eye shadow obsession.  I’ve always been a MAC eye shadow fan, and when I found out I could save $101 by purchasing the palette rather than individual colors, I was SOLD!  They have three palette choices; Warm Neutral, In the Flesh, and Cool Neutral–which I prefer in that order for my skin tone.   I recently purchased the Warm Neutral palette and have been putting together so many fun new looks!  Here’s a close up of mine.  IMG_2024

Here is a side by side of all three options.
1. Warm Neutral 15 warm, neutral shades to create endless looks.
2. In the Flesh: 15 iconic neutral shades, perfect for a classic nude look.
3. Cool Neutral: 15 cool, neutral shades that enhance cool skin undertones.

MAC Warm Neutral Times 15 Eyeshadow Palette – Warm Neutral • M·A·C • $65

MAC Eyeshadow X 15 – In The Flesh • M·A·C • $65

MAC Cool Neutral Times 15 Eyeshadow Palette – Cool Neutral • M·A·C • $65

If you’ve never used MAC eye shadow before, do it!  It has the best pigments, least amount of fall out, and wears all day!  (In my humble opinion.)

Updated Office Space

I recently updated the corner of my office.  I needed to stay within a pretty small budget, so off to Target I went!  I wanted more storage and knew I needed a small chair that wouldn’t overpower the space.  I kept my color pallet very simple (black, white, gold, and a little pink).  Here’s what I came up with.

Trendsend: Personal Styling

Have you ever tried Trendsend?  It’s very similar to StitchFix only without the styling fee. I recently gave it a try and it was so much fun!  They sent me three different looks– Mom On-the-Go, Work Attire (with and without jacket), and Date Night  Which look is your favorite?  I love how they send me items I might never try on in the store (i.e. faux leather leggings).

Here’s a little more about how it works.

1.  Fill out your style profile (it only takes 10 minutes) so they can learn about your taste, lifestyle, body type and budget.
2. You have 5 days to try on your 6-8 hand picked pieces. Every box includes a personalized note from an expert stylists on how to style each piece and integrate into your wardrobe.
3.  Only pay for what you keep and return the rest with ease thanks to free shipping and returns (it’s on them!). 100 percent simplicity, zero pressure.

The Happiness Advantage

Who wants some EXTRA happiness in their lives?  Everyone, right?

Society has taught us that if we work hard we will be more successful, and if we are more successful, then happiness will follow. But recent discoveries in the field of positive psychology and neuroscience have shown that this formula is actually wrong! Happiness creates success, not the other way around. When we are positive, our brains become more engaged, creative, motivated, energetic, resilient, and productive.  After listening to Shawn Achor speak at a national conference in Las Vegas over the summer, I’ve incorporated at least one of the follow “happiness habits” into my daily routines.

  1. Writing down three new things I am grateful for each day.  Research shows this will significantly improve your optimism even 6 months later, and raises your success rates significantly.
  2. Writing for 2 minutes describing one positive experience I’ve had over the past 24 hours.  This is a strategy to help transform you from a task-based thinker, to a meaning based thinker who scans the world for meaning instead of endless to-dos.
  3. Exercising for 10+ minutes a day.  This trains your brain to believe your behavior matters, which causes a cascade of success throughout the rest of the day.
  4. Meditating for 2 minutes, focusing on breathing in and out and clearing my mind of the “chatter”.  This will help you undo the negative effects of multitasking. Research shows you get multiple tasks done faster if you do them one at a time. It also decreases stress and raises happiness.
  5. Writing one, quick email first thing in the morning thanking or praising a member on my team, family, or friends.  This significantly increases your feeling of social support, which is a large predictor of happiness.

The Happiness Advantage isn’t only about how to become happier.  It’s about having a more positive mind-set to reach your maximum potential and live an extraordinary life!  It’s truly amazing how a slight mind-shift change and simple daily gratitude exercises transform your mood, relationships, productivity, and life!  Pick one of the above strategies and give it a try for the next 21 days.

Family Pictures

We recently had family pictures taken to capture Rowen turning 2 and Isla turning 4.  Our photographer (http://www.ashleysommerphotography.com) is amazing and the pictures turned out perfectly.  This is our 7th family session and they just keep getting better.

I always get asked how I pull outfits together for family pictures.  It’s NEVER easy, but it’s a process I enjoy.  Here are a few tips I’ve learned along the way.  *I’ve added links to our outfits below.

  1. Start with the hardest person to dress.  I’m not going to lie–this is usually ME!  I have a hard time finding just the right fit, so once I have my outfit, I can go from there.
  2. Find a main pattern or print with a fun color pallet.  My color inspiration always comes from this print and makes looking for outfits easier. (I used the grey, pink, burgundy, and olive green from my dress.)
  3. Start pulling items that “play nice” with your main pattern.  They don’t have to perfectly match.   I also like to add in a few other subtle patters like a polka dot or a stripe.  I never mix to many bold patterns.
  4. Add in all the Extra Details.  Think textures and layers–fur vests, suspenders, sweaters, hats, earrings, headbands, shoes, etc.
  5. Visually lay out your items and check that you don’t have too much of the same color on the top, the bottom, or overall.  For example, if three people are wearing a burgundy top, it doesn’t look the best–at least in my opinion.
  6. Continue mixing and matching until something catches your eye.  You’ll know it when you see it!P33A8132

I’m Starting a Blog

I have been thinking about starting a blog for years but have always been too hesitant (worried, scared, hard on myself, etc.) to begin.  I would think of a great idea, then find the flaws and excuses and dismiss my plan.  Why?  Then after reading, You are a Badass, by Jen Sincera, I decided to GO FOR IT!

What do I have to lose?  What’s the worst thing that could happen?  I could fail and learn from my mistakes or  I could succeed and find a new passion.   If you’ve got a great idea or want to try something new, I highly recommend reading Jen’s book.  You’ll learn that fear is for suckers and that to live a truly fulfilling life, you need to believe in yourself 110%.

Join me on this journey!  I hope to inspire someone, anyone to fear less and do more.  To be less bland and accessorize more. To worry less and love more.
